The Greek Music Ensemble is thrilled to present a unique and long-overdue concert celebrating the life and work of Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis (1925-2021). Theodorakis, a legendary figure of Greek art music, has masterfully coupled poetry with music, creating an aesthetic product of high artistic and emotional value. He set to music works by Nobel laureates Odysseas Elytis and Giorgos Seferis and other influential Greek poets of the 20th century.

Mikis composed music that carried the feelings, hopes, aspirations, and troubles of entire generations in a small country that had gone through World War II, a civil war, and a dictatorship. In those dark times, his artful musical creations embodied the yearning of an entire people. They sang a society that was seeking inspiration and freedom, and they mobilized people to struggle for social justice and democracy.

On stage the Greek Music Ensemble with a 12-member orchestra and 20-member choir in this big celebration of Hellenic music and culture.

Special distinguished guest performers from Greece: Manolis Pappos (Bouzouki), Dasho Kurti (Accordion).
